Since becoming a parent a little over six months ago, I have come to realize just how expensive having a kid can be and just how much fun it is to shop for the baby. Now that I have a good excuse to buy cute stuffed animals and food-shaped teething toys, I have been looking forward to Amazon Prime Day more than ever before. The annual shopping event is, ahem, a prime opportunity for parents to score deals on things their kids need, from backpacks to car seats. But there’s also seemingly endless discounts on fun stuff like toy kitchens, kiddie pools, Magna-Tiles, and electric scooters.

Prime Day 2023 runs from Tuesday, July 11, to Wednesday, July 12. (Reminder: You have to be an Amazon Prime member to shop.) There will be thousands of items on sale, but not all are worth your attention. I find it helpful to approach Prime Day with a strategy, whether for buying all your holiday gifts early, finally pulling the trigger on expensive stuff you couldn’t otherwise afford, or concentrating on essential items you know you use all the time (diapers aren’t cheap). But if you’re flying by the seat of your pants, this list will help you avoid purchases you may later regret.

Using my deal-sniffing expertise and many hours of research, I’ve rounded up all the best Prime Day deals for babies and kids (including big-ticket items like strollers and baby monitors as well as smaller stuff) and sorted them according to age. To save you time and help you find the very best deals, I’ve prioritized products we have written about before, ones that have been recommended to me and my fellow Strategist staffers by cool parents, educators, and even real-life kids. I’ve also searched for the biggest discounts on products from some of our favorite brands.

Just know that everything will be on sale only as long as supplies last, so if you see something you want, don’t dillydally. Especially as Prime Day winds down: I’m done updating this article for the day, but you can still shop the deals below until 2:59 a.m. ET — unless they sell out sooner. And to make sure you don’t miss anything about Prime Day or any other great sales ever, sign up for our newsletter, too.

When I was pregnant, I inherited this pillow from a friend with two kids and it was the most comfortable pregnancy pillow I tried. Now I use it as a pillow for breastfeeding support. But since it’s not cheap, I’ve been sending the Prime Day sale link to all my friends.

Parents-to-be won’t understand the value of this thing until they successfully free a giant booger in the middle of the night.

Graco’s Extend2Fit car seat is popular because it has a 50-pound rear-facing weight limit so kids can stay rear-facing longer. It’s featured in our guide to car seats and kept senior editor Jen Trolio’s two daughters safe and comfortable from ages 1 to 5.

[Note: Only one of the colors available is still on sale: Kenzie.]

If you’re driving around with more than one kid, you should definitely consider this Slimfit version of Graco’s 3-in-1 car seat. It’s one of the narrowest models on the market, which can be crucial to fitting multiple car seats into smaller cars.

Named the best Wi-Fi monitor in our guide to baby monitors, this complete monitoring system can even measure your baby’s breathing — something my anxious mind would have appreciated in the first few months of parenthood.

The Snoo smart bassinet — which gently lulls your baby to sleep during the sleep-depriving early months — was recently approved as a medical device by the FDA because of its ability to prevent SIDS in infants. That means parents might be able to get reimbursed by their health insurance at some point. Until then, buying it today means you will save over $300.

A nifty way to cart your kids and all their endless amounts of stuff around on the weekend.

[Note: Only the Wayfarer and Green/Olive colorways are still on sale.]

In our roundup of the best car seats, we recommend the Chicco KeyFit 35 ClearTex as one of our top infant car seats. Our panel of experts say it’s extremely easy to install, plus it’s made with Greenguard Gold–certified materials and comes with a fully extendable canopy, an anti-rebound bar for added stability, and a no-rethread harness.

I just bought this multipack of rugby-inspired baby socks for a mere $5.

If you previously thought all the good wearable breast pumps were too expensive, this sale might help you change your mind.

[Note: This breast pump has a delayed ship date and is expected to arrive in August.]

Or you could go the lo-fi route with one of our favorite manual pumps.

Bravado made our list of the best pumping bras with their clip-on pumping accessory. But with the brand’s nearly 40 percent off two-in-one nursing and pumping bra, you can do both without having to change at all.

[Note: Only size small is available at this price.]

I have my eye on this fuzzy interactive penguin that sings and teaches babies to blow a kiss. I love that it moves and talks but doesn’t look anything like a Furby. We have written about the elephant version of the same toy, recommending it in our gift guide for 1-year-olds as well as our list of the 100 best toys.

A friend just told me that these nearly half-off ear muffs kept her baby comfortable and happy on a family trip that included a loud night of bowling. I’ve also seen friends post pictures of their babies wearing the cushy ear protection at outdoor concerts at the Prospect Park bandshell.

After seeing this travel changing pad on the Strategist Baby Registry, I put it on my own baby registry. And I’m really glad I did, because it’s all I used until my husband had time to assemble our changing table a month after the baby was born. This is a steal, especially for something you will use all the time.

Strategist contributor Laura Perciasepe previously wrote about how this bentwood table and chair set for toddlers doubles as a Herman Miller–style coffee table. The nesting set — each chair fits neatly beneath the table — is now available for less than $200.

Once a child flips from rear-facing to front-facing in their car seat, which often happens at age 2 or 3, this front-facing-only car seat takes up less space in the back than a convertible one. It’s also relievingly simple to install. Trolio has used it with both of her daughters — now ages 5 and 8 — thanks to its transformation from five-point harness seat to high-back booster.

Kids this age love pretend play and the more realistic props and accessories they can get their hands on, the better. This 70-piece grocery-store play set includes food, money, a cashier’s apron and name tag, gift certificates, and much more. That’s an excellent value for just $14.

And here’s a discounted and durable wooden refrigerator to store all the above pretend groceries.

My niece has several Green Toys bath toys including this ferry. I love the brand because of the nontoxic, ecofriendly materials and the durable construction that’s easy for little hands to hold. At just $9 this is a majorly great deal.

This adorable and durable set of cleaning toys has long been one of our favorite gifts for 2-year-olds. In fact, one Strategist editor’s son was so enamored by the idea of cleaning with it that he took his first steps while holding the green broom.

Little kids grow out of shoes so fast that finding cute ones like these all-black Crocs on sale is a godsend.

According to our panel of toddler experts, this set of easy-to-drive remote-controlled cars are perfect for 3-year-olds thanks to their durable and lightweight construction.

This much-discounted Toniebox keeps kids engaged without a screen, and can help them calm down before naps and bedtime.

Aside from LEGOs, Magna-Tiles are the toy we hear about most from parents, teachers, kids, and store owners. They are just as engaging for little kids as they are for their older siblings, and the different sets all work together. This 100-piece set is as cheap as we’ve ever seen it and a great way to start your collection.

It’s hot outside — your kid probably needs to hydrate.

Sarah’s Silks’s simple play silks have been recommended to us by parents, drama teachers, and child-development experts. The brand rarely goes on sale, so get these while the discount lasts.

If you’ve been on the fence about buying your kid a tablet, today’s more-than-half-off deal might convince you. The Amazon Fire 7 comes with a protective case and built-in stand, a one-year subscription to Amazon Kids+, 32 GB of internal storage, a parent dashboard, and a two-year-replacement guarantee.

Blue’s Clues is as popular now as it was when it first debuted. If you know a kid who’s obsessed with the show like I do, this adorable wooden mailbox set would make a great gift.

This foam pogo jumper from our guide to expert-recommended outdoor toys offers an intro to pogo sticks for younger kids who don’t yet have the balance for a “real” one.

A now much-more-affordable megaset of highly recommended art supplies for kids. We also spotted a set of art supplies and easel accessories from Melissa and Doug that are particularly cheap right now.

This Bluey playhouse was featured on our 2022 list of holiday toys that will sell out. Don’t wait for it to sell out again.

For parents who prefer wooden toys, and other parents too, this discounted animal balancing game from HABA is a fantastic addition to any toy box. The pieces can also be used for imaginative pretend play.

Thirty percent off our favorite lunch box for preschoolers and elementary-school kids.

A deep discount on one of the most popular toys from the 2022 holiday season.

Trolio’s older daughter received this shrunken, extremely portable dollhouse for her 7th birthday, and it has proved just as popular with her 5-year-old daughter. The pineapple opens up to reveal two micro dolls, a monkey, a giraffe, a tree house, and a mini-boat. “Both girls love that you can carry it like a cross-body bag,” Trolio says.

What kid wouldn’t want a handheld 3-D printer?

We have heard over and over again from parents that kids this age are wild about office and art supplies. And I bet they’ll be especially nuts about these pretty pastel Post-its.

Of all of the toys we recommend, Bunch of Balloons are perhaps the easiest to understand: They attach to a hose and let you fill and tie 100 water balloons at once. Buy some for your kids, your friends’ kids, and even your friends without kids.

These reusable water balloons are shaping up to be the toy of summer according to Strategist writer Lauren Ro and the kids at the Prospect Park splash pad.

This on-sale LEGO storage box comes in six primary colors, is stackable, and is made with BPA-, PVC-, and phthalate-free plastic.

Tweens and teens these days love instant cameras and IRL photo prints. This one has a cool retro design and comes with 60 sheets of photo paper — all for just over $100.

If you’re not Barbie’d out from the endless collaborations and pink-hued products preceding the release of Greta Gerwig’s movie, this Barbie Dream House building set might be the perfect family project.

If you are, here’s a fun Minecraft-themed LEGO set instead.

Parents, educators, and professional artists all recommend these Prismacolor colored pencils for kids who are serious about drawing. So if you’ve got a creative kid at home, this discount on a 72-pencil pack is a very good incentive to buy them as a gift to squirrel away for later.

A perfect “toy” for creative kids who already have watercolors, colored pencils, knitting materials, and a Polaroid camera.

This green-energy-themed Snap Circuits set combines lessons in STEM and environmental advocacy. Kids can build a wind turbine, solar clock, and mini-electric car.

The deluxe version of this Micro Kickboard was named our top scooter for older kids, according to parents and scooting experts. This more basic model has many of the same features — and since the brand rarely goes on sale, it’s a great deal at more than 20 percent off.

I have heard from several fourth-graders (in New York and beyond) that an electric scooter is at the top of their holiday and birthday wish lists. Just don’t forget a helmet.

It’s not self-propelling, but this seriously compact scooter can fold small enough to fit inside a backpack and is on our list of the best kick scooters for kids.

This differently proportioned Bentgo is useful for older kids who eat larger portion sizes.
